Anelia Hotel Room 325, Mauritius

I am staying in this hotel June 8-26, 2022
I found the management of the hotel needs to pay attention to the following:... read more />
Reno needed
Baseboard incompletely installed and finished. Looks tacky.
Vanity siding, as with other areas, need a coat of varnish/paint.
Patio door latch was broken and cannot be locked.
Room walls are not tastefully finished.

House Keeping
Drape is dirty and partly off hook (this was later rectified).
Floor is tiled. It is occasionally wet and dry mopped but never vacuumed.
In fact, I do not think house keeping has a vacuum.
I think I am a very clean person, somehow, the floor in the room gets quite dirty. For the ~18 nights I stayed here (2 more nights to go) my room has only been wet mopped once.
I have so far seen in the room 4 cockroaches, a spider, two large ants and numerous small ants.
I do not know the responsibility of cleaning of the corridors falls on whom. They were seldom cleaned. There was a stray cat around and at one point during my stay, cat feces was left on the corridor floor for two days only to be cleaned when I complained to the manager.

General
Staffs are friendly and hard working. Some speak Creole more fluently than English.
Swimming pool water seems clean but does not seem well chlorinated. Pool was was not heated - feels cold to me.
Pool towels are accessible from poolside cabana but it closes early at 4:00 pm. Sunset close to 6:00 pm this time of the year.
American breakfast is adequate. Stated serving time supposedly 7:30 am to 10:00 am but food choice is not adequately stocked until realistically 8:00 am. Provided food is adequate in buffet style. However, it is unpleasant to eat with pesky birds and flies which are not too few in numbers.
This hotel has a large compound and barely adequately lit in the evening. The compound contains several buildings housing the guests. In the evening, during my early days of staying here, I found the hotel compound confusing and I did not find it easy to locate my room in the dim light. I would suggest that directions be painted on the cement pavement with the buildings clearly labelled and lit on the outside wall; eg. (Building) A, B, C..

Rooms are large, well lit, provided with kettle for making tea & coffee with powder milk and sugar. Disposable slippers are provided.
There is one each of hairdryer, TV, safe, ceiling fan and AC installed in the room.
They is a phone in the guest room. However, no pen/pencil (I lost my only pen) or writing pad is provided as is customary in a lot of other hotels.
The rooms are quite and chambermaids usually do not showed up till around 11:00 am. I am fine with that.
Each room has its own patio provided with patio furniture consisting of a table and two chairs - I find those handy especially for drying wet clothes.

Hotel security is adequate. I had to sign a paper to say that the hotel would not be responsible for lost items.

All-in-all I would rate my stay here a C+ or 3.5/5.

I badly needed a break from my hectic life and randomly chose Anelia hotel and I am fully satisfied with my stay. Now I will purposely choose Anelia hotel for my holidays.
All the staff were really welcoming. I don't remember all their names. A few of them are: lovely Lucie with her beautiful smile, Vidoushee who always spared some time to take care of me n my family and especially Mr Ajay we treats all of us equal and focuses on customer satisfaction.

  Admittedly we went in off season and overall I think the hotel was OK, but there are some areas in the resort that are quite dated, especially the games room... read more and 'entertainment area'. In the games room there are 2 pool tables, but they are both in bad condition, with different size pool balls and all of the cues had no tips! So a little difficult to play properly. Table tennis and table football were OK to play. The gym was good and acceptable as long as it didn't get too busy. The evening entertainment was poor in my opinion. They had 'themed nights' each night and one of them was billed as 80's & 90's. But it was nothing of the kind! The dance area is basically a small area in between the front of the stage and dining tables, which are kept out all day. It felt like the same playlist on every night and after 2-3 days it was very samey and there's nothing much really to do at night outside of the hotel. The food choices were OK. But after a week if got a little boring and repetitive. There were birds spotted in the buffet and burger bar eating the fruit and food off plates on numerous occasions. Also there are quite a lot of flies around. Beds and apartments were comfy. There were kids were screaming and crying around the pool, so it's not... There were kids were screaming and crying around the pool, so it's not really relaxing. It seems as though there are a few pools at the resort, where actually there is only the one main pool you can lounge around.

There are stray dogs walking around the hotel grounds. They wasn't really a problem though, but every night between 3:30 and 6am I would hear dogs continuously barking non stop for around 30-45 minutes. I was over in the far blocks 251 & 252, so not too sure how loud it was for other areas?

The water was a real problem for us. Sometimes there was no hot water to shower with, sometimes just no water! I actually burnt my hand once because the water came out scolding hot. Just something to be aware of if you have young kids.

Our bath and hand towels were taken and not replaced on 4 or 5 occasions. Each time I had to call reception to ask them to bring towels as we had none in the apartment. Once it took them about 40 minutes to bring towels!

I brought both the water and towels problem to the hotel managers attention saying I was getting frustrated with it. To his credit he acted on it, but the water was still an issue after this at times.
He also replaced the mini bar in one of our rooms with a new fridge as the other one wasn't getting cold.

One thing about Anelia that was good were the staff. There were some there that always made you feel special and made time to stop and chat, always with a smile.
A few that went over and above I felt are:
Alain (main pool towel swap) - Such a nice guy. Gave us plenty of help with our visit to Port Louis amongst other tips. "Thank you for everything Alain"
Lucie (chef) - What a beautiful soul! Always smiling, always asked how we were and made the best pizzas for us!! "Thank you Lucie, your smile will be missed"
Darshan, Prajith & Gaurav (restaurant/bar) - Amazing staff members. Always made sure we were OK for drinks etc and their service was great.
The manager, Manaj was so welcoming too. Nothing was a problem for him and he was always making sure we were all OK whenever our paths crossed. Thank you.

Overall, I guess if it was in full season then it may be a little more exciting to stay at Anelia. It's not a bad hotel, it just needs a few little things taken care of. More

From the Personnel to the Management team all were very serviable... read more and made my stay a memorable one. I was made to feel as part of the Anelia family. The rooms were well entertained, foods at the buffet were very tasty, the personnel at the Restaurant always cared for us. At the reception we were welcomed with a maurician smile. The welcome drinks were wow. From the receptionists to the porters, they were all helpful. Never seen a garden as beautiful as at Anelia Resort & Spa.
My congratulation to the whole Anelia family going from the entrance guards, porters, receptionists, gardeners, waiters, cooks room maids to top management.
