I'm sure we both came home a stone heavier!! Lots of variety and we never went hungry with the amount of food they put on throughout the day! We used the spa which was lovely and I would recommend! It was a very quiet resort, which was perfect for us, but if you want more nightlife and entertainment, this may not be the place for you. It turned out that there was a problem with a water leak in the room we’d been allocated so Abhijeet sorted us with a different room. Gilbert in the main restaurant was especially helpful - my husband likes cold milk in his tea and he kindly gave him some.

Amenities etc: There was a good size swimming pool and also a rock pool with a swimming pool type ladder. As others have said you do need swim shoes for this, take a mask and snorkel - the fish and coral are amazing.
We used the gym twice, it wasn’t too bad for a hotel gym although a few of the machines were broken .
If you like to read, there is a bookcase in the room next to reception where you can swap books.
A highlight of our trip was going on the boat with Jeremy (from the boathouse next to the hotel) to see the Dolphins in their natural habitat. We were able to snorkel from the boat and see them swimming past.
Most evenings there was music and a few nights there was a Sega dance show.

Anelia Resort is at the end of Flic en Flac beach - it’s a lovely walk along the beach and you can also walk via the road where there are a few shops. If you like shopping you can catch the bus to Cascavalle shopping centre which isn’t far and only costs about 30rs each way.

We hired a car for a few days so that we could explore other parts of the island. If you are visiting from UK it’s the same as driving at home as they drive on the left.

On the day of our departure we had to check out by 11am but were not being picked up until 6pm. We were able to use the hotel’s facilities until we left and a room was provided about an hour before we were picked up so that we could have a shower before leaving. Abhijeet came to say goodbye and wished us a safe journey home. We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. More

The shower did leak out into the bedroom but no biggy as our cleaner gave us another towel to put across the door. We stayed in a premium room looking out to sea, beautiful view. The tiles on our patio area had several cracked tiles. The food was only hot if you got it from the griddle or cooked noodles, there was a great choice of different cuisines but would have been so much nicer if it was hot. A fabulous gala meal on Christmas Eve on the beach had a lot of effort put into it. Still only tepid food though. The pool by the dining area was very dirty ( not the water) The whole place needs refurbishing and bring it up to standard of a 4* which it is rated at. I would say more 2/3* at the moment. The first night we went to eat ( family of 4) we could not find a table to accommodate 4 people, lots of tables for 2 were vacant. We were told we couldn’t put 2 tables together and we should go earlier, not the solution we would expect, after speaking to the dining manager we got tables put together. Next day we spoke with the general manager and asked why it was a problem to put tables together, he said there shouldn’t be a problem. We had evening entertainment which was loud but to make it much worse they had private functions on the beach with extremely loud music competing with the hotel entertainment. This going on while trying to have an evening meal. We did complain that it was far to loud, it actually reverberated on the patio to our rooms. Nothing was ever done about the volume, even though we complained to the general manager, the only positive was it stopped at 11 pm. I will say the staff in general were lovely. 😊 I could write lots more but I feel this is enough to be going on with.

When I raised my voice, he started giving me a lesson on manners along me "You have manners?".

The audacity of the fellow was outrightly offensive and it ruined the evening for me and my wife.

  Admittedly we went in off season and overall I think the hotel was OK, but there are some areas in the resort that are quite dated, especially the games room... read more and 'entertainment area'. In the games room there are 2 pool tables, but they are both in bad condition, with different size pool balls and all of the cues had no tips! So a little difficult to play properly. Table tennis and table football were OK to play. The gym was good and acceptable as long as it didn't get too busy. The evening entertainment was poor in my opinion. They had 'themed nights' each night and one of them was billed as 80's & 90's. But it was nothing of the kind! The dance area is basically a small area in between the front of the stage and dining tables, which are kept out all day. It felt like the same playlist on every night and after 2-3 days it was very samey and there's nothing much really to do at night outside of the hotel. The food choices were OK. But after a week if got a little boring and repetitive. There were birds spotted in the buffet and burger bar eating the fruit and food off plates on numerous occasions. There were kids were screaming and crying around the pool, so it's not really relaxing. It seems as though there are a few pools at the resort, where actually there is only the one main pool you can lounge around.

There are stray dogs walking around the hotel grounds. They wasn't really a problem though, but every night between 3:30 and 6am I would hear dogs continuously barking non stop for around 30-45 minutes. I was over in the far blocks 251 & 252, so not too sure how loud it was for other areas?

The water was a real problem for us. Sometimes there was no hot water to shower with, sometimes just no water! I actually burnt my hand once because the water came out scolding hot. Just something to be aware of if you have young kids.

Our bath and hand towels were taken and not replaced on 4 or 5 occasions. Each time I had to call reception to ask them to bring towels as we had none in the apartment. Once it took them about 40 minutes to bring towels!

I brought both the water and towels problem to the hotel managers attention saying I was getting frustrated with it. To his credit he acted on it, but the water was still an issue after this at times.
He also replaced the mini bar in one of our rooms with a new fridge as the other one wasn't getting cold.

One thing about Anelia that was good were the staff. There were some there that always made you feel special and made time to stop and chat, always with a smile.
A few that went over and above I felt are:
Alain (main pool towel swap) - Such a nice guy. Gave us plenty of help with our visit to Port Louis amongst other tips. "Thank you for everything Alain"
Lucie (chef) - What a beautiful soul! Always smiling, always asked how we were and made the best pizzas for us!! "Thank you Lucie, your smile will be missed"
Darshan, Prajith & Gaurav (restaurant/bar) - Amazing staff members. Always made sure we were OK for drinks etc and their service was great.
The manager, Manaj was so welcoming too. Nothing was a problem for him and he was always making sure we were all OK whenever our paths crossed. Thank you.

Overall, I guess if it was in full season then it may be a little more exciting to stay at Anelia. It's not a bad hotel, it just needs a few little things taken care of. More
